CABIN CREW ROLES IN FIRE FIGHTING

  • FIRE FIGHTER: First person at scene - Press call bell 3 times, collect necessary equipment, implement appropriate fire drill
  • FIRST COMMUNICATOR: Inform Captain via interphone (222) with PAA briefing (Problem-Action-Additional Info), collect Halon/Crash Axe/Fire Gloves from flight deck, update Captain regularly
  • BACK UP: Collect equipment from first communicator, collect other fire fighting equipment, empty bar box, ready to take over (Don PBE and Fire Gloves)
  • SECOND COMMUNICATOR: Reassurance PA to passengers, move passengers and flammable items, distribute wet towels

PRE-DEPARTURE INSPECTION (PDI) PROCEDURES

IMPORTANT: All safety equipment must be inspected before boarding of the first flight of your duty. A full list and details of all equipment carried on the aircraft is listed in Chapter 3 and 5 of this manual. If any items are found to be missing or defective the No 1 must be informed immediately who will in turn advise the Captain.

FIRE EXTINCTION

  • Water Glycol - Wire seal intact, cartridge visible
  • Halon/Halotron - Pressure gauge serviceable, pin secure
  • Crash Axe - Correct stowage (Flight Crew)
  • Fire Gloves - Quantity and condition

RESPIRATORY

  • PBE - Green case intact, indicator not pink
  • Stowage and quantity

OXYGEN

  • Portable O₂ - Gauge reads 3/4 to full, strap present
  • Mask attached to Hi flow for emergency use

FIRST AID

  • White FAK - Sealed with security seal
  • Green FAK - Sealed with security seal
  • Red EMK - Zip sealed, flight deck location
  • Biohazard Kit - Quantity (2 kits + 4 spare bags)
  • AED - Green light flashes every 5-10 seconds

SURVIVAL

  • Torch - Red light flashes (max 10 sec intervals)
  • Life Jackets - Stowage and quantity
  • IFDs - Blue disc/marking visible in PSU
  • Crew Life Jackets - Quantity at jumpseats
  • Megaphone - Squeeze handle, green light flashes
  • ELT - Pin in place, seal intact

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT

  • Infant/Extension Seatbelts - All present
  • Wheelchair - Stowage and quantity
  • Demo Kits - Quantity and contents (Seatbelt, O₂ mask, Life jacket, Safety card)

Configuration Differences

Boeing 737-800 (Non-BSI):

  • No touch screen panel in FWD and AFT CSA Panel
  • Adult life jackets under seats OR in PSU (varies by aircraft registration)
  • IFDs under B and E seats or in PSU

Boeing 737-800 (BSI):

  • Touch screen present in FWD and AFT CSA panel
  • Adult life jackets in PSU (except rows 1ABC and 2DEF)
  • IFDs in PSU above B and E seats

Boeing 737-8200:

  • 197 passenger seats
  • Mid Exit Doors (MED) at row 28
  • Enhanced equipment configuration
